An Example
Problem A team building a major new satellite had been forming and working together for about nine months and now numbered over 30 people. Although the team had been working effectively and had hit all its milestones to date, the management recognised that it could do with further refining its focus and developing even more commitment so as to successfully face the challenges ahead.
Solution Hendry Performance Development was asked to design and facilitate a two-day workshop to achieve some challenging outcomes of clarity of purpose, commitment to the project and enhanced team working. A design was created with the first day focusing on team members understanding more about themselves and the way they related to others; understanding and evaluating how they worked as a team against high performance criteria; developing a statement of team ethics and formulating a meetings charter. The second day concentrated on fleshing out milestones for the sub-teams, identifying further risks and hazards, developing actions to mitigate these and ensuring teams were committed to all the identified actions. The management team responded to feedback from the first day to commit to actions to improve communications and leadership.
Outcome The workshop was deemed a great success with all attendees believing it was very beneficial. All outcomes were achieved.
In an email following the event, the client said
The management and facilitation of the event has been "top drawer" and it has certainly helped sell the outcomes of the event to the team. We have certainly exceeded our own very high expectations of the event - there is a definite buzz in the office this morning and lots of positive feedback.
