An Example

Problem – An individual in his mid-50s working with the Commercial Department of a large organisation, was very confident speaking in public. Unfortunately he was a liability as he rarely organised his thoughts, often said what colleagues had planned to say and unnecessarily opened up topics that were commercially sensitive.

Solution – He attended a two-day Presentation Skills training programme, specially-designed for members of his company. This attendance was one week before he was due to make a presentation to the Group Board on the proposed future of the company’s relationship with a client country.

Outcome – The presentation was very successful. In an email shortly afterwards, the presenter said
I just wanted to thank you for your wisdom and teachings.
I was able to put in the necessary preparation, get in some pre-presentation feedback via email and incorporate this into the presentation. I was also able to hold some pre-presentation briefings with key people.
On the day I made sure I was in the room an hour ahead of the presentation during which time I managed to "fix" the projector, so by the time the big moment came I was calm and managed to deliver for over an hour.
Although I had plenty of notes I didn’t really need them after a few minutes.
I had some nice comments after the presentation and the day was a success.
The only downside is I can expect to do some more in the Future. There will be another in March.
But seriously, I have now shown to those that matter than I can be trusted to deliver in the future and that will hopefully in itself open further opportunities.
